Fake GTX1050 GPU scam on eBay

Fake GTX1050

First, here’s a little backstory.

Our 14-year-old son is a bit of a gamer and enjoys doing some graphic design as well. He has a fairly nice computer. A 6 core AMD CPU and 16 Gig of RAM but he only had a GS 520 for a video card. Well, he has been really stepping up lately helping around the house and such and most of the time he doesn’t need to be asked to do something more than once and just does several tasks without needing to be asked so I decided it was time to upgrade his video card.

Being aware of the GPU fakes out there I searched around YouTube for a video on a fake or scam GTX 1050 and I couldn’t find one so I bought the card knowing that it would most likely be a fake. Delivery was just taking too long. The seller in China took over a week to even ship the item so I knew I would be waiting awhile. I found a “New Other” Gigabyte GTX 1050 2G for under $150 and it would ship from Massachusetts. The eBay description said it could be an open box or missing a driver CD. Well since I would never use a driver CD anyways I bought that video card.

The GTX 1050 2G card finally arrived from China and here’s what we got:
